Rationalizing Our Circumstances

The first thing that pops up is "Why just me?" or "Why just us?". This is the common theme shared by all those, who have or have a loved one, with a potentially terminal disease like cancer.

I am personally going through these circumstances. My now 3 year old son Abdullah (Zohaib) Umair is currently being treated for Stage 4 Neuroblastoma (a serious cancer). The following link maintains a blog on his treatment and disease (http://abdullahumair.blogspot.com/).

I would not even want my enemy to imagine circumstances such these. The doctors told us that we are in for the long haul. We initially did not realize the meaning of "long haul". It has a more abstract meaning, as we are progressing through this treatment, we are realizing the quantification of this abstract term. In our case the "long haul" means "the extended life span" (which I wish to be atleast another 100 years) for my child.

The only beacon of hope I could find in my life was my religion and God (Allah meaning The One). I turned to my religion to rationalize my situation.

Human life is finite in this world. Everyone who is born has to die. There has to be something bigger and greater to rationalize our existance.

This world is temporary place that God created to test everything, most of which is humanity. God sends us to this world to test us. He may do so using some of the below;

With or without WEALTH.
With or without HEALTH.
With or without CHILDERN.
With or without WAR.

It is with these that God tests us. The only element He seeks from us is how thankful we are for His blessings bestowed on us and how patient we are with difficulties thrust upon us in life. The ONLY thing that negates our test is ungreatfulness, as our perogative should always be God knows best.

Rationalizing my situation, the solution to my exam in life lies in being eternally greatful to God regardless of the belessings bestowed on me or difficulties I am faced with.

The current situation has made me reprioritize everything in life and get a deeper understanding of the purpose of my existance.

God loves us 70 times more than our mothers. We come from Him and shall ultimately return to Him. He know everything that we do and think.

Everything that we do, every decision that we make; should be please God and not offend Him. This, thanking God for every blessing, being patient for any unpleasentary in our lives and asking for forgiveness for our sins from God really gives inner peace and statisfaction.
